This is also the period for planting summer flowering bulbs. Begonias, Gigli, Agaphantus, Dalie… The only limit to be respected is 13°C. Under this temperature it is “forbidden” to proceed.

As soon as the flower fades, let’s provide for the elimination with well-disinfected shears or knives.
Remember to eliminate only the flower and not the leaves. These are necessary and essential for accumulating reserve substances. In this way the bulb will continue to grow and reproduce.
In short, it will accumulate supplies for the following year, in order to be able to blossom.
Continue to supply water until the leaves dry completely. In this case we can proceed in two ways.
- Remove the bulbs from the ground. Clean them from the ground, remove the dried leaves and roots. In some cases you do not even need to use scissors because it will come off in a very natural way. Let the bulbs dry. Then put them in a paper bag and “forget it” in a dry place in the dark.
- Or leave the bulbs in the ground. Stop completely watering and place the pot in a sheltered place. Repaired means away from rain and humidity that could promote bulb rot.
Choose the process you like the most. Or experiment with and see which one is best for you.
